The science content previously on this site has moved to the Geology Cafe website.

The GeoZeum will continue as community education center dedicated to Earth Sciences. However, in addition to providing classes for elementary grades (4th & 6th grade curriculum), programs are expanding to include classes on jewelry making, earth crafts, natural history, and nature art. The Geozeum will maintain exhibits about rocks, fossils, fluorescent minerals, maps, and regional geology & geography. Starting in July, the GeoZeum will be open to the public during special community events. Learn more about San Juan Bautista and see our community calendar at http://sanjuanbautistaca.com.

San Juan Bautista Rock & Mineral Club
The San Juan Bautista Rock & Mineral Club meets at the GeoZeum on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00pm. The club offers an opportunity for interested community members to come and learn about area geology and find out about joining (or leading) field trips in the Central Coast region. In the past year we have had field trips to destinations to Arroyo Seco Canyon, the San Benito River, Tres Pinos Creek, and BLM lands in the Panoche Hills region. Come and meet other rock hounds, and help us plan a future of interesting local field trips, activities, presentations, and fun!

Anticipated trips this coming year will include: Fremont Peak, Arroyo Seco Canyon, Big Sur coast, Santa Cruz coast, San Benito River & Tres Pinos Creek, Pinnacles National Monument, and the San Benito Mountain/Clear Creek area.
Schedule to join a walking tour of the San Andreas Fault in San Juan Bautista. The GeoZeum is a short walk from the San Andreas Fault, located adjacent to the Old Mission in San Juan Bautista State Historical Park. Walking tours typically last 40 minutes and include a general overview of the town cultural and natural history. The walking distance is about 0.25 miles and includes one flight of stairs. Group organizers should call or visit Tops Rock Shop or contact geologist (walking tour leader), Phil Stoffer.
Fossil Phil "Fossil" Phil Stoffer (PhD geology, retired) currently teaches geology at Gavilan College. In his free time, Phil offers local and regional geology field trips for groups of all ages, including natural sciences societies, rock & mineral clubs, retired citizen groups, tour groups, college classes, scouts, and other community groups.
